Our Dried & Graded (0.2mm-1mm) Synthetic Turf Sand is designed to provide support for synthetic turf bristles keeping them upright whilst blending into the background and anchoring the turf to the ground.
River Sands Synthetic Turf Sand is double washed to remove any clay, dirt, and dust; providing cleaner, dust-free working conditions for surrounding properties. It is kiln-dried to assist with clump-free placement and easy spreading. The sand is passed through a sieve and graded to the optimal particle size of 0.2mm-1.0mm for artificial turf, ensuring no oversized particles or shells are included. Oversized particles can sit on top of the turf causing aesthetic issues and potential damage to the blades. The dried silica sand is a natural tan colour to naturally blend into the background of turf.
The above qualities ensure River Sands Synthetic Turf Sand is an easy to use product that anchors artificial grass down whilst keeping grass bristles in an upright position for natural-looking turf. By anchoring the turf and supporting the grass bristles, the turf will remain attractive with no tears for a long time.
River Sands Synthetic Turf Sand is the first choice for specialist contractors and is ideal for use in large residential, commercial, and government projects, including resorts, high rise pavements, tennis courts and specialist sports fields. The variety in available packaging options ensures delivery to any site, including those with difficult or limited access options.
River Sands supplies Synthetic Turf Sand in bulk tipper loads, 1 tonne bulk bags and 20kg plastic bags which can be stored safely outside with no impact from the weather.
For small home or civil projects you can find Easy Mix’s Synthetic Turf Sand in 20kg bags at your local Bunnings store in the drive-through Trade section.
Coloured and specialist sands
River Sands can supply a green coloured sand that enhances the colour of the surface for both synthetic and natural grass. Our green coloured sand is ideal as a top dressing and anchoring sand for tennis courts, synthetic turf sports fields, and general synthetic turf use like traffic islands, community centres, and childcare facilities. It can also be used on natural turf for televised sports events, such as ovals, sports fields, and golf courses.
River Sands green coloured sand can also be used as an option for coloured playground sand.
This sand follows the above washing and kiln drying process. The dried silica sand is then coloured at very high temperatures with a chrome green pigment which fuses to the sand particles to provide a completely fade-resistant and permanent green sand. The sand blends in with the grass to enhance the overall colour, providing a rich and vibrant green appearance.
River Sands supplies green coloured sand in 20kg plastic bags which can be stored safely outside with no impact from the weather.
Foundation for Synthetic Turf
For attractive synthetic turf or artificial turf that feels nice underfoot and lasts a long time, it is essential to create a level foundation. Often, the preferred base for a foundation is concrete which has been waterproofed, though Crushed Bluestone is also often used.
Using Crushed Bluestone as a foundation allows for easy drainage and a solid even surface once compacted.
River Sands supplies Crushed Bluestone in 20kg plastic bags which can be stored outside safely with no impact from the weather and as 1 tonne bags.
The below steps outline how to lay artificial turf with River Sands Synthetic Turf Sand.
- Place and compact Crushed Bluestone sub-base to create a level foundation on top of your concrete surface
- Lay out artificial turf and brush the bristles upwards
- Disperse Synthetic Turf Sand evenly across the entire area
- Brush Synthetic Turf Sand into base of bristles to anchor turf and keep turf blades upright for natural looking turf.
